<p>Micky Axton is &quot;Miss Micky&quot;&#8230; Drawn to flying during the barnstorming 20&#39;s she was one of the first women to become a test pilot during World War II. She was educated to become a pilot, recruited into the WASP by Jacqueline Cochran, became a test pilot in WWII, and was the first woman to fly the B-29.</p>
<p>On July 1, 2009 the U.S. Senate and House of Representatives recognized the Women Airforce Service Pilots (WASP&#39;s) and <a href="http://www.gpo.gov/fdsys/pkg/PLAW-111publ40/html/PLAW-111publ40.htm" target="_blank">passed public law 111-40</a> to award them a Congressional Gold Medal. Find additional information at <a href="http://wingsacrossamerica.us/wasp/" target="_blank">WASP on the Web</a>, or <a href="http://wwii-women-pilots.org/" target="_blank">WWII Women Pilots</a>, <a href="http://www.wingsacrossamerica.us/wings" target="_blank">Wings Across America</a>, or <a href="http://www.cafmn.org" target="_blank">Minnesota Wings</a>. Also watch these <a href="http://www.youtube.com/view_play_list?p=D8A96CEA74245B39">great video&#39;s</a> by <a href="http://www.youtube.com/user/buglegirl1" target="_blank">buglegirl1</a>.</p>
<p>This is a re-post from my 2008 MNHS documentary. It seemed deserving of an update.</p>
<p>March 2010 update&#8230; Micky would have received her Congressional Gold Medal on <a href="http://www.af.mil/news/story.asp?id=123194315" target="_blank">March 10, 2010</a>. Unfortunately she passed away on February 6, 2010. I will certainly remember her for a long time, and saddened by her passing. She was remembered in her local <a href="http://www.edenprairienews.com/news/city-news/famed-eden-prairie-aviator-micky-axton-remembered-102" target="_blank">Eden Prairie newspaper</a>, recognized in <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mildred_%22Micky%22_Axton" target="_blank">Wikipedia</a>, and reported on many times including an <a href="http://minnesota.publicradio.org/display/web/2009/08/12/wasps/" target="_blank">MPR News Story</a>.</p>
